Ángel exterminador, El (1962)

Without a doubt, one of the best movies that I've seen over the last so many months. I've never before been smiling at how deftly and beautifully the movie reflects life and its crazy truths. An absurd concept, with surrealism at its best. No one but Luis Buñuel could have done this better :-) The symbolisms are laden in every other scene, and if you are patient to decifer it, you'll be touched in so many different ways by this movie. There was no DVD of this. But luckily Stanford Library has Video cassettes which they rent too. It was a black and white.
The plot is weird if anything: During a formal dinner party at the home of Señor Nobile and his wife, Lucia, the servants unaccountably leave their posts until only the major-domo is left. After dinner the guests adjourn to the music room, where one of the women plays a piano sonata. Later, instead of leaving, the guests remove their jackets, loosen their gowns, and settle down for the night. By morning it is apparent that for some inexplicable reason, they are trapped in the room....
